no one will be interested in changing applications if the new application
doesnt do something new or better. very few users will switch from an
application which is a little hard to use but does everything they want,
to something which is easier to use but is lacking in an often used or
requested functionality.

users are drawn by features.  they stick around if they have a good
experience (re: good usability, good UI design, good feature set, good
interaction, good chance that it will continue to be improved over time,
etc.).
