Hi,

Comments from Printing Summit mailing list members would be
very welcome on the topic below. To subscribe to the WIMS
WG mailing list (necessary to send comments to the list),
please visit:

  http://www.pwg.org/mailhelp.html

The PWG WIMS (Web-based Imaging Management Service)
Working Group has a joint project with the DMTF CIM
(Core Information Model) to update and extend the
printing classes in CIM for more complete coverage
of the properties defined in the IETF Printer MIB v2
(RFC 3805) and IETF IPP/1.1 (RFC 2911).

The WIMS-CIM project has concensus on the Printer MIB
properties for inclusion in CIM, in the directory:

  ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/cim

in the files:

  PrinterMibObjectsToAdd_conclusions_20060921_F.pdf
  - the list of SNMP objects and comments

  PrinterMibObjectsToAdd_conclusions_20060921_F_Rationale.pdf
  - the rationale behind our choices

Since WS-Mgmt (now a DMTF project) and OASIS WSDM
both plan to use the CIM classes as the basis of all
future standard Web Services management, CIM printing
classes will eventually be the ONLY method of reading
these Printer MIB properties (SNMP is now very often
disabled in enterprise networks, for security reasons).

Please join us in person or by teleconference at the
PWG WIMS WG session in Lexington:

  Friday 27 October - 8:30-10:45am US EDT
  Dial In: 1-866-365-4406
  Toll #: 1-303-248-9655
  Passcode: 2635888#

Cheers,
- Ira (co-editor of WIMS-CIM project documents)
